Mahindra Thar OG Launched Iconic 3-Door SUV Gets New Platform, More Power and Better Features

Mahindra has officially launched the new Mahindra Thar OG in India, giving its iconic three-door lifestyle SUV a significant mechanical and feature upgrade while retaining the rugged character that has made the Thar popular among SUV enthusiasts. The new-generation update brings a stronger platform, revised suspension, improved steering, additional safety equipment and more powerful engine options. The introductory price starts at Rs 10.32 lakh ex-showroom. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.

Fresh Identity With Familiar Thar Character

The Mahindra Thar OG continues with the unmistakable three-door silhouette, but Mahindra has introduced several styling changes. It gets a new bold grille, LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, redesigned bumpers and new LED tail-lamps.

The SUV also receives new 19-inch alloy wheels, giving the Thar OG a more premium stance. Two new exterior colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, join the existing colour palette.

New Platform for Better Refinement

One of the biggest changes is hidden underneath the familiar exterior. The Mahindra Thar OG moves to Mahindra's M_Glyde 4G platform, which has been engineered with increased stiffness.

The SUV also gets a new rear PENTALINK suspension incorporating a Watts Link, while DAVINCI damping technology with Frequency Dependent Damping is designed to improve ride comfort. Electric power steering is another important addition, making low-speed manoeuvring easier than before.

More Capable Off-Road Package

The new Mahindra Thar OG continues to focus strongly on off-road ability. Selected versions feature an Electronic Locking Differential, while dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes help optimise vehicle behaviour for different surfaces.

The combination of four-wheel drive, upgraded suspension hardware and electronic assistance gives the SUV a more comprehensive off-road package while also aiming to improve everyday drivability.

Mahindra Thar OG Engine

The Mahindra Thar OG is available with petrol and diesel powertrains. The 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine now produces 119kW and 330Nm, while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel develops 111.9kW and 330Nm. The 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel continues with 87.2kW and 300Nm.

Depending on the variant, buyers can choose manual or automatic transmissions, while four-wheel drive is available with selected powertrains.

Premium and Practical Cabin

Inside, the Thar OG receives a refreshed cabin with Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and a soft second-row armrest with cupholder. The SUV also gets a 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear AC vents, cruise control and a rear-view camera on applicable variants.

These additions make the three-door Thar more practical for regular driving without taking away its adventure-focused character.

Safety Gets a Major Upgrade

Safety is another important area of improvement. Higher variants can be equipped with six airbags, including four HPTS airbags, along with front parking sensors, all-disc brakes, TPMS and an enhanced ESP 9.3 safety suite with rollover mitigation.

Mahindra Thar OG Price and Variants

The Mahindra Thar OG starts at Rs 10.32 lakh ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 18.99 lakh ex-showroom under the introductory pricing structure. The range includes AXT, LXT and ZXT trims, with multiple engine, transmission and drivetrain combinations. Mahindra says the introductory pricing is valid for deliveries until November 30, 2026.
