BMW i5 LWB Launched in India: 669km Range, Executive Rear Seat Comfort and Rs 79.60 Lakh Price

BMW India has expanded its electric luxury-car portfolio with the launch of the new BMW i5 LWB (Long Wheelbase). Priced at Rs 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric sedan becomes BMW India’s first locally produced electric sedan and is assembled at the company’s Chennai facility. Designed specifically to deliver additional rear-seat space and a more comfortable chauffeur-driven experience, the i5 LWB combines the familiar character of the 5 Series with a fully electric powertrain.

The new i5 LWB measures 5,175mm in length, 2,156mm in width and 1,520mm in height, while its 3,105mm wheelbase creates a particularly spacious rear cabin. BMW says it is the largest and longest car in its segment, with the extended proportions aimed at customers who place a strong emphasis on rear-seat comfort. The design features an illuminated BMW kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights, slim LED tail-lamps and 20-inch M alloy wheels.

Inside, the electric sedan focuses heavily on premium comfort. The cabin combines a modern dashboard with high-quality materials, a panoramic glass roof and BMW’s latest digital interface. CraftedClarity crystal elements add a premium touch, while the Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system is designed to provide an immersive audio experience. Rear passengers can also benefit from generous legroom and provisions for mounting personal tablets or entertainment devices.

Powering the BMW i5 eDrive35L is an electric motor producing 268hp and 410Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a single-speed transmission. The sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 6.7 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 195kmph. Rather than focusing solely on outright acceleration, BMW has tuned the i5 LWB to provide smooth and refined performance suitable for both city traffic and long-distance highway travel.

The car uses an 81.6kWh high-voltage battery pack and offers a claimed range of up to 669km under the MIDC testing cycle. BMW also provides a complimentary wallbox charger with installation. The i5 LWB supports DC fast charging at up to 160kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in a claimed 33 minutes. This combination of long range and fast charging makes the sedan more practical for owners who regularly travel between cities.

Ride comfort is another major highlight. The BMW i5 LWB receives adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance developed with Indian road conditions in mind. The suspension is intended to absorb uneven surfaces while maintaining stability at higher speeds. BMW has also equipped the car with comfort-oriented suspension tuning, helping create a relaxed experience for rear passengers without sacrificing the brand’s characteristic driving dynamics.

The safety and driver-assistance package is equally comprehensive. The i5 LWB offers advanced driver assistance technologies, active cruise control and parking assistance features designed to reduce the stress of navigating busy urban environments. Multiple airbags, electronic stability systems and advanced braking technologies further strengthen its safety credentials.

BMW has launched the i5 LWB in the eDrive35L M Sport specification, while an exclusive First Edition was offered to the first 99 customers. BMW confirmed that all 99 First Edition units had sold out before the official launch, indicating strong initial interest in the new electric sedan.

With its Rs 79.60 lakh price, 669km claimed range, spacious rear cabin and locally assembled status, the BMW i5 LWB gives premium-car buyers a compelling electric alternative to traditional executive sedans. It also strengthens BMW’s localisation strategy while expanding the company’s electric portfolio in India. For buyers seeking luxury, technology, comfort and zero-emission driving in one package, the i5 LWB arrives as one of BMW’s most significant new electric offerings for the Indian market in 2026, for modern premium Indian families.
